NOTE: LIMITED AVAILABILITY – CHECK WITH RETAILERS. Icarus has been released in copper, white, brushed gold, and wheat (pictured) colored enclosures. They all sound the same – terrific.

Everybody has a different idea of what a “clean” boost is supposed to be. Here at Caroline, we think there’s a distinction to be made between clean and plain. This motivated us to make ICARUS™.

Sometimes a booster is placed in front of other overdrives or effects to push them into clip or improve their performance. Other times, players use them to raise the overall volume of a clean amp, or push an amplifier on the verge of breaking up into saturation. There are also other situations where a booster is used to distinguish the lead or standout parts with a different tone.

Icarus™ excels at all of these. Its simple layout starts with a “wings” (boost) control that dials up plenty of gain and power. While the low-impedance output instantly eliminates the effect of long cable lengths, the “sun” (treble) control can be dialed down to a natural level of capacitance that is more natural and pleasing sounding to the ear, or dramatically darken and thicken the tone.

Here is a short sample using the Icarus as a clean boost for a strat into a Class A amplifier. The effect comes on at the :10 mark.

And here is the Icarus with a P90 outfitted guitar helping push a vintage Marshall that’s breaking up into a sweet spot. The effect comes on at :16.

We recently answered some questions about the transistors we “didn’t” use and the phase of Icarus here. You can also download our Icarus™_manual to learn more about this pedal.

Icarus™ is shipping to our retailers now. We did not want to release something until we had something that compelled us to replace the VERY nice boutique boosts that resided on our personal boards for years. Only then did we feel it may be worthy of yours.
